Inside the Graeter's bakery: How the King Cake is made

Inside the Graeter's bakery: How the King Cake is made  Fat Tuesday marks the last day to indulge in the junk food and sweets before the start of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. A traditional King Cake is a blend of coffee cake and a cinnamon roll with loads of sugar. The King Cake comes from the biblical story of the three kings who brought gifts to Baby Jesus. And a plastic baby is often hidden inside. Tradition says the person who finds the baby has to buy the cake the following year. So you might find yourself popping into Graeter’s to pickup a cake for friends of co-workers today. But the process to make that King Cake takes hours, sometimes days at the Graeter’s bakery. “By the time Tuesday comes around, we will have done about 375 large and 1200 small,” shared Graeter’s Lead Baker Anthony Schwier. Anthony has been with Graeter’s exactly 20 years now, plenty of time to perfect the process. Anthony stated, "We make our Danish dough with 16 ingredients, 500 pounds at a time....

Pochettino hails 'priceless' Gallagher after Chelsea comeback win

Pochettino hails 'priceless' Gallagher after Chelsea comeback win Mauricio Pochettino said match-winner Conor Gallagher is "priceless" to Chelsea after his two goals helped them to a 3-1 win at Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Monday evening. Chelsea went into the break 1-0 down after Jefferson Lerma's wondergoal in the first half, but Gallagher scored just a minute into the second half and then a 91st minute winner to break Palace's resolve. "I think he's a player with a great commitment to the team, always trying to compensate every single situation," Pochettino said of Gallagher. "It's priceless to ha...

NFL playoffs: What We Learned from Chiefs' overtime win against 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII

NFL playoffs: What We Learned from Chiefs' overtime win against 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII LAS VEGAS --   1) Patrick Mahomes conjures magic as Chiefs outlast 49ers in OT slobberknocker. With the game on the line, there's no one on the planet you'd rather have with the ball than the Magic Man, Mahomes. The Chiefs' offense came out of the gate slowly, as it has for much of the 2023 campaign, scoring three points with a red zone turnover in the first half. Then Mahomes began to find Travis Kelce, ate up a Dre Greenlaw-less 49ers D over the middle, and marched up and down the field. A few red zone stalls highlighted a year-long struggle for an offense that missed a big-play presence. But Mahomes led a game-tying field goal drive to force the second overtime Super Bowl game in NFL history. Then he got the ball back, trailing by three in OT, and zoomed the Chiefs down the field. Mahomes used his legs, scrambling for a first down on fourth-and-1, and his arm. When Niners defe...
