Phoenix — Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart was arrested for assault Wednesday for punching Phoenix Suns center Drew Eubanks at the arena hours before the teams played, police said.

Phoenix police said Stewart was issued a citation and released. Stewart was already listed as out for the game because of a sprained left ankle. Eubanks had six points and eight rebounds in 18 minutes in the Suns' 116-100 victory.

Eubanks said before the game that the altercation happened as he was coming into the arena. CBS Phoenix affiliate KPHO-TV cites police as saying it occurred in the Footprint Center's parking lot.

Eubanks said an argument started and they were chest-to-chest before Stewart threw the punch. Security intervened and Eubanks said he was fine for the game, though police say he sustained a minor injury.

"The attack on Drew Eubanks was unprovoked, and acts of violence such as this are unacceptable," the Suns said in a statement. "We unequivocally support Drew, and will continue to work with local law enforcement and the NBA."

The Pistons said they were aware of the incident.

"We are in the process of gathering information about what happened and what provoked it, and responding to the NBA and local authorities," the team said.

Pistons coach Monty Williams, fired by Phoenix after last season, said he thought the Suns shouldn't have weighed in with their statement.
"The thing is to get all of the information. The NBA will do an investigation," Williams said after the Suns beat the Pistons, 116-100 . "For me to come here and make a statement would be a bit irresponsible. I know the Suns said it was unprovoked; I think that is irresponsible for sure. You really don't know.

"That did not need to happen. There is a time for the information to be gathered and then you can make a statement."

Stewart was involved in an on-court altercation with the Lakers' LeBron James in 2021 that saw Stewart suspended for two games and James for one.

"Keep the game first. There's a lot of noise," Suns star Kevin Durant said. "It's unfortunate what happened before the game, it's supposed to be a brotherhood. But I also understand, dudes get into stuff. We try to avoid that in this league, hopefully we can move on from it. We all support Drew."

Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh killed in Iran, Hamas says

Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh killed in Iran, Hamas says Reuters, July 31, CAIRO - Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas, was slain in Iran early on Wednesday, the Palestinian militant group announced, raising concerns about a further escalation in a region already unsettled by Israel's war in Gaza and a deepening crisis in Lebanon. Hours after Haniyeh attended the inauguration of the nation's new president, the Revolutionary Guards of Iran declared that an investigation was underway and confirmed Haniyeh's passing. Israel refrained from commenting right away. The Israeli military did not provide any new security directives for civilians, but it did state that it was performing a situational assessment. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stated that while Washington would strive to reduce tensions, it would also support Israel's defense should it come under assault. The announcement seems to have hampered the prospects of an impending ceasefire in Gaza, given it was made le...

Inside the Graeter's bakery: How the King Cake is made

Inside the Graeter's bakery: How the King Cake is made  Fat Tuesday marks the last day to indulge in the junk food and sweets before the start of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday. A traditional King Cake is a blend of coffee cake and a cinnamon roll with loads of sugar. The King Cake comes from the biblical story of the three kings who brought gifts to Baby Jesus. And a plastic baby is often hidden inside. Tradition says the person who finds the baby has to buy the cake the following year. So you might find yourself popping into Graeter’s to pickup a cake for friends of co-workers today. But the process to make that King Cake takes hours, sometimes days at the Graeter’s bakery. “By the time Tuesday comes around, we will have done about 375 large and 1200 small,” shared Graeter’s Lead Baker Anthony Schwier. Anthony has been with Graeter’s exactly 20 years now, plenty of time to perfect the process. Anthony stated, "We make our Danish dough with 16 ingredients, 500 pounds at a time....
